Dolby On began as a recording app aimed at taking Dolby audio technology and packing it into a simple and approachable tool for those new to recorded music to professionals on-the-go
Our goal was to create a simple and beautiful music tool that was approachable by all and acted as a halo product for Dolby Audio. This was Dolby’s first consumer mobile app ever.
Early sketches, concepts, and directions
Dolby positions themselves at the intersection of Art + Science with a focus on being technical magicians. I wanted to lean into that branding principal when designing how we visually represent tracks. A very creative way to house interactions (play, pause) and a emanation area for motion throughout the product.
Session Songmarks
After hours of demos and testing it became apparent that our auto-processing was not enough - users wanted tools to edit their sound in addition to auto-mixing/mastering. These were early visual explorations for our Sound Tools.
User testing with local musicians, various external hardware, and musical styles + instruments. We conducted some play sessions with local students and got feedback on EQ profiles that matched their taste.
